Trussardi Sound Of Donna Perfume Review *

When Trussardi Sound Of Donna landed through my doorstep, I was initially taken in by the bright pink box.  I am a magpie basically.  I’ll admit that I’ve never heard of the brand, but there are so many fragrance houses these days that I think I can be forgiven for that.

Now this arrived a couple of days after Mick had taken me to see Mamma Mia 2, so when I saw that it was called The Sound Of Donna, it seemed kind of fitting.  Now when it comes to fragrances, I’ve become very very fussy.  I have my preferred brands and I rarely stray from them anymore.  Also, the kinds of scents that I enjoy has totally changed over the last few years.  I used to love sweet, girly scents, but now I find them hard to deal with, so it’s taken me a while to figure out what I think of this offering from Trussardi.

I’m a very visual person and the packaging is what needs to initially draw me in.  I am a typical girl and pinks and purples make me happy, so to see a glass bottle in the 2018 Colour of the Year – Pantone 18-3838 Ultra Violet – was a very good start.  It is bold and eye-catching and when mixed with the silver detailing of the name, it creates a gorgeous effect.  The wavy horizontal lines on both the box and the bottle add a nice touch and are supposed to represent ‘a rebellious and irregular reinterpretation of the musical stave’.  Overall, the bottle is gorgeous and in your face and certainly looks rather pretty in a photograph.

I always wonder just how strong the coffee is that they serve in the planning meetings for a new fragrance.  There’s always some fancy story painting a picture of something so descriptive and Trussardi Sound of Donna is no different.  Created by perfumer Emilie Copperman, the perfume is aimed at the modern young woman.  I could try and sum up the brief, but just in case you want that picture painted for you, I will share with you the press release blurb.

Heels clicking in the stairs, the wind blowing in her hair, silk gliding over leather: these are the sounds of a feminine, rebellious, and modern woman.  The sound of her voice is heard above everything.  It is delicate yet powerful, as unstoppable as happiness and vibrating with desire.  Sound of Donna is the new women’s fragrance by Trussardi Perfumes.  Targeting young, multitasking women who love their jobs and free time.  They adore music, life and the opportunities thrown at them.  The perfume pays homage to the brand’s sophisticated elegance but with a touch of irreverent femininity, instantly winning over its wearer like a pop hit.

Perfumes can be categorised by what family they belong to, but categorising Sound of Donna is a bit difficult as it belongs to three different olfactory families: Oritental Floral; Gourmand; and, Woody.  For me, it starts of extremely sweet – too sweet for me, but it does dry down into a nice wearable scent where the woody notes shine through.  I definitely think that younger woman will really enjoy this and I really would have liked it 10 years ago, but I think it’s a little bit on the young side for me.
