2017 is the year that I am getting serious about my skincare. I’m not getting any younger, so I feel that investing in some high quality products will be worthwhile as I want to keep the old complexion looking as fresh as possible. We all know that I prefer high end products (they make me happy), so I had a recent splurge (I have no money for food now but my skin should look amazing so it’s worth it) on some products from Sunday Riley.
Sunday Riley are definitely on the pricey side, but are they worth the hype?
I already had the Ceramic Slip Cleanser (£35.00), and I have really started to love using it.
It is a clay-based, gel cleanser that aims to detoxify the skin as well as minimising the appearance of pores. It works to purify the skin, tighten the pores, and stimulate collagen and circulation. The blend of natural essential oils contained in the cleanser tone and balance the skin without drying it out. I don’t use this to remove my makeup, instead I use this as a second cleanse and love how it leaves my skin feeling.
Refined French Clay that tightens the pores, removes any impurities and leaves the skin infused with vital minerals
Vitamin C to help reduce the appearance of large pores, wrinkles and discolouration as well as stimulating the growth of new collagen
Black Pepper to stimulate the circulation for warming cellular revitalisation
I’d heard good things about Martian – it’s a Mattifying Melting Water-Gel Toner (£48.00) that starts off as a really nice cooling gel that transforms almost instantly into a mattifying water toner.
It has been formulated to target oily and acne-prone skin and whilst I wouldn’t describe my skin as either of these (although there can be some oiliness), it feels amazing on my skin. It clarifies, removes oil and tightens your skin so quickly, whilst visibly reducing the appearance of pores to give you a clear and oil-free complexion.
Bentonite which absorbs the excess oil from the skin as well as diminishing the appearance of pores, giving the skin a shine-free finish which helps makeup stay on all day
Manuka, Black Cumin, Neem, Magnolia Bar have natural anti-bacterial properties that help to improve the skin clarity as well as dealing with signs of problem skin
Marshmallow Root works to natural soothe and cool the skin , as well as diminishing signs of redness and skin sensitivity
Cucumber & Witch Hazel cools, tightens and helps to tone the skin
Green Tea is rich in antioxidants and anti-aging properties and improves the skin’s overall appearance
I heard so many people raving about Luna (£85.00) that I knew I had to try it.
Now I am not normally a huge fan of facial oils but I have quite a lot of them, so this is the year of embracing them, and I am glad that I am. Luna is a Sleeping Night Oil that reduces pore size, as well as improving the appearance of damaged skin and helping to fight wrinkles. It is a trans-retinoic acid and it does warn you on the box that, at first, it can cause some peeling and I have noticed some slight peeling, but it does calm down thankfully. After just a few days of using this I have noticed that my skin is starting to look clearer and firmer, so I am definitely going to keep using this, even if I did find the deep blue colour a bit scary at first.
Trans-retinol ester that helps to fight wrinkles, fine lines and deal with the loss of elasticity in the skin
Blue Tansy which is high in azulene which has strong anti-inflammatory properties. It helps to address the effects of skin damage, as well as helping with conditions such as eczema and dermatitis
German Chamomile is really good for treating skin that is irritated and inflamed
Avocado Seed Oil works to plump fine lines. It is rich in Vitamins A, B, C, D and E and has anti-inflammatory properties
Chia Seed Oil is a rich botanical source of Omega 3, and also contains ALA which helps to minimise fine lines
Cape Chamomile helps to deal with skin irritation and is believed to encourage a healthy inflammatory response as well as supporting the ability of the skin to regulate sebum
After getting used to the vivid blue of Luna, I was then a little shocked to see just how green UFO (£68.00) was.
It is an Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil designed to help deal with blemishes and the buildup of blackheads. It is fast-acting and decongests the pores to leave the skin smoother and spot-free. It also suggests mixing it with your foundation to further help to conceal any spots. I don’t often get blemishes, but I have always suffered with blackheads, so I have been using this mostly on my nose, and I am beginning to notice some improvement.
Salicylic Acid helps to exfoliate the skin and remove any oil buildup and debris from inside the pore. It is a BHA which is gentler than an AHA and is suitable for those with more sensitive skin
Tea Tree Oil helps to purify the complexion
Black Cumin Seed Oil also helps to purify the complexion
Hexylresorcinol works to naturally brighten any old spot discolourations
Milk Thistle Seed Oil visibly soothes and hydrates the skin
I am obsessed with adding radiance to my complexion, so I also picked up Juno (£70.00), which is a Hydroactive Cellular Face Oil.
It nourishes the skin with a blend of antioxidants, vitamins, essential amino acids, omegas and anti-inflammatory agents to give the skin a luminous radiance. It also helps to brighten the skin, increase collagen and protect against damage from free radicals. It leaves your skin feeling so soft and beautifully hydrated and there is a definite radiance, which I love.
Blackberry Seed Oil which is full of Vitamin C to help even out the skin tone and build collagen
Blueberry Seed Oil contains high levels of antioxidants, Vitamin E and Omega 3 to help fight premature aging
Cranberry Seed Oil helps the skin to absorb essential fatty acids that are needed for regeneration
Red Raspberry Seed Oil is another anti-inflammatory which helps with eczema as well as premature aging
Black Cumin Seed Oil is a therapeutic plant that helps to fight against irritation and the signs of aging
Wild Carrot Seed Oil helps to improve the skin’s elasticity and the appearance of the skin
Broccoli Seed Oil compliments and supports the UV damage protection of sunscreen use
Overall, I have been loving the effects of these products. I now really want to get the other Sunday Riley items but they are seriously expensive. It was a risk spending so much money on these when I hadn’t tried them before, but I felt like I really needed to up my skincare game, and these are helping me do that.
