I adore Jo Malone fragrances, so when I saw that she’d launched The Bloomsbury Set, I got more than a little excited. The set contains 5 new fragrances, although I only managed to get 2 of them (damn stupid bank account spoiling all of my fun). I hadn’t had a chance to smell any of them, so I bought the ones that I liked the sound of the most, and thankfully I seemed to have picked quite well.
Inspired by the free spirited artists of the Bloomsbury set, a collection of scents capturing the intoxicating essence of an unconventional life in their legendary country house in Sussex.
The lily pond at dawn, bold blue hyacinth, absinthe afternoons and golden linseed on paint-stained hands. Warming whisky and sweet pipe tobacco. The secrets of waxed floors burnished by footsteps in the night.
The packaging of the bottles is a long way from the traditional Jo Malone bottles, and whilst I do prefer the more classic packaging, these bottles do look very pretty with the paint effect styling. They’re different and fun, and fit in perfectly with the Bloomsbury ethos.
The first scent that I was drawn to is Blue Hyacinth as I wanted another floral scent for Spring. Notes of bold blue hyacinth, garden geraniums and woody vetiver blend together beautifully to make this floral without being what I can only describe as an ‘old lady scent’. I love floral fragrances but the addition of the vetiver makes this smell so amazing and perfect for me.
The other scent that I chose was Leather & Artemisia and I wasn’t sure what to expect from it, but I liked the sound of it. It mixes notes of anise-tinged absinthe with artemisia, soft orriswood, deep rich leather and Cypriol. It is such an intoxicating blend and smells amazing. The leather notes are so deep and rich and the amber scent of the Cypriol balances perfectly with it.
