Just over 6 months ago I attempted suicide. Yesterday I met my idol. Today it has properly hit me just how far I’ve come. I finally met Charlotte Tilbury and I don’t think anything can wipe the smile off my face.
Back at the end of August, I genuinely didn’t feel like I could be happy again. Today I’m in a little bubble of happiness. Life with Mick is going great, my illustrations are slowly starting to take off and my blogging dreams have now come true. It’s shown me that no matter how bad things seem, they really can improve and that nothing is ever as bad as you think it is.
We all know that I am a huge fan of Charlotte Tilbury – both her as a person and her brand. Barring 9 products or so I own every item and I love her. I genuinely adore her. If you’d asked me who I wanted to meet most in the World, I would have said her (and then Victoria Beckham). Movie stars, pop stars and TV stars hold no excitement for me at all. You can keep your Beyonce and Dua Lipa (legit don’t know who she is), for me it was all about Charlotte Tilbury.
I’m lucky enough to be sent Charlotte Tilbury products for PR and to have had some lovely experiences with them, but I’ve never been to one of their proper press launches. When the invitation came to go down to London for the official launch of Hollywood Flawless Filter (you can read my review here), I was booking a train ticket before I’d even finished reading the email. Now money is very tight at the moment and £90 for a train ticket isn’t ideal, but sometimes there are opportunities in life that you just can’t turn down.
So yesterday morning, Mick dropped me off at the station and I set off for London. Now normally when I go down I black cab it everywhere as the thought of the Underground genuinely terrifies me. However, as I’m skint I knew that I would have to take the Tube from Euston to Green Park. My anxiety was so high and I was dreading it but guess what? Yep, I did it. Ok so it was only 3 stops, but it was a mini achievement for me and I’m a little bit proud of myself.
As usual I was way too early so I took a little stroll through the park down to Buckingham Palace. Old Lizzy wasn’t in which I think is a little rude – did she not know I was coming? Looking at some big old council house is nice and all but it hardly takes up a lot of time, so I had to find something to do that wouldn’t cost me any money. I’m familiar with Covent Garden and Oxford Street, but Mayfair is a whole new world to me. I’ve never seen so many Ferraris and designer handbags in my life. I’m not gonna lie, I felt very inadequate and like a fish out of water. I’m from a little mill town in Lancashire so I was a little bit intimidated by the wealth I was seeing. Seriously, if I ever win the lottery I’m soooo going on a shopping trip down there.
I took a stroll up to New Bond Street and drooled over the Chanel bags and looked wistfully in the windows of Dior and Louis Vuitton before making my way to The Arts Club on Dover Street where the event was being held. Again, I was too early (it’s an illness I swear) so I went and sat in the bar and ordered the most expensive orange juice ever. Aside from a slightly awkward encounter with a certain blogger I used to have dealings with, I was lucky enough to meet two really lovely girls, Steph and Lauren, who were so nice and made my nerves calm down a lot.
After being handed a cherry bellini, we made our way into Leo’s, which is a little club downstairs at The Arts Club. I will admit that I had a little fangirl moment when I spotted Caroline Hirons – her skin is incredible – and it was strange seeing some bloggers who I’ve only ever seen on Instagram, but I was there for one reason … to meet my Queen.
When she appeared I was ridiculously excited and I was very nervous. She spoke to us about Hollywood Flawless Filter and then showed us some new releases. I’m not allowed to tell you anything about them until next month, but trust me, you will LOVE them! Then we all got the chance to go and meet Charlotte and have a picture with her. By this point, the menopause kicked in and I was a mess with my makeup leaving my face fast. Luckily some of the amazing CT artists were on hand for touch ups and the fabulous Sarah Jane Wai had me looking flawless in no time. I also got to see the wonderful Nelson again which was lovely. Another person I got to meet is Kelly, one of the CT artists who is so friendly (we’ve followed each other for a while so it was great to see her in person).
And then I got to go meet Charlotte. She knew who I was which was mind-blowing to me, and she is so warm, friendly and infectious. She gave me a hug and a kiss and said some amazing things to me and she was everything I had hoped for and more. Now I’m not the most photogenic person, even less so when I’m nervous, but to have photographs of me with Charlotte is just so special to me. They always say never meet your idols – well bollocks to that! I met mine and it was incredible. It was definitely the highlight of my blogging career so far and I doubt anything will ever top it.
I’d like to thank the amazing Team Tilbury for having me and putting the biggest smile on my face.
