Diptyque 34 Scented Candle

Diptyque 34

The Diptyque 34 candle is one of the candles of my dreams.  I had a travel size and the regular size, but for a long time I’d longed for the big one.  Last Christmas, Mick got me one of the huge Jo Malone candles, so this year I opted for Diptyque.  I knew I wanted a large candle, but I gave him a couple of options as to which scent he went for.  I’m so glad that he went for 34 as it is gorgeous.

Let’s get the elephant out of the room first and that’s the price.  This candle costs £200 which we all know is a ridiculous price for something you’re just going to burn.  I know that but it was my Christmas present … plus it was over £100 cheaper than the Jo Malone one so really it was a bargain lol.  This was my main Christmas present, so it’s the one time we sort of ignore the price tag.  Would I normally let Mick, or even myself, drop £200 on a candle?  No I wouldn’t, but Christmas and birthdays are different.

I have everything that I could ever need, so when it comes to picking what I want for Christmas, I tend to opt for something that I would never buy myself and that tends to be expensive candles.  I love candles with a passion, so when I opened this on Christmas morning, I was a very happy girl (even though I already knew there was a giant Diptyque candle in amongst my presents).

So now that I’ve justified my Christmas present, let’s get into why I love this candle so much.

The very first Diptyque boutique was in Paris at 34 Boulevard Saint Germain and 34 was created to encapsulate all of the different scents in the boutique.  The first time I smelt this, I was in the Covent Garden store and I absolutely fell in love with it and bought myself the normal size (there’s probably even a blog post about it somewhere on this site), and it’s a scent that I’ve loved ever since.

The 34 boulevard saint germain candle has a scent which reveals itself as fresh, green and spicy accords. Damp mosses, crumpled blackcurrant leaves, sun-dried fig leaves all favorite raw materials.

Top Notes

Blackcurrant, Green Leaves, Fir Leaf, Citruses, Pink Pepper, Cardamom, Cloves, Cinnamon

Heart Notes

Rose, Geranium, Tuberose, Iris, Violet

Base Notes

Wood, Resin, Eucalyptus

Burn Time

Up to 150 hours.

There are some many different notes going on that, in theory, this shouldn’t work but it really does.  It’s not too feminine, or too masculine – it is just the perfect scent.

So if you feel like splurging, or buying the smaller version, then I highly recommend the Diptyque 34 candle.
