ColourPop Super Shock Cheek

ColourPop seem to be everywhere these days.  You can’t go on social media without seeing their gorgeous products, yet it is only now I’m jumping on the bandwagon.  I do have a liquid lipstick, but other than that I’ve never tried their products … until now.

Back when I was able to spend money on makeup (I miss those days), I was always a little wary of ordering from ColourPop as I’d heard a few stories about customs charges.  They offer international shipping, and it seems there’s often offers on, but the UK government are greedy bastards and like to slap their own charges on orders.  However, I’ve also heard some people say they’ve never been charged, so I guess it’s just the (bad) luck of the draw.

I’ve lusted over their products for a while, not helped by the gorgeous Gemma from Gemma Etc who is always tempting me with stunning pictures of their goodies.  So, I’ve managed to get my little paws on some of their Super Shock Cheek highlighters and I can already predict what is going to happen.  I’m now going to want to order lots and lots of goodies and my bank account says no.  Still, at least the Christmas and birthday lists this year should be a lot easier to compile!

ABOUT COLOURPOP

ColourPop was born, raised and made with love in the City of Angels. Founded in 2014 by Seed Beauty, we pride ourselves on being wallet friendly and bunny approved. We test our products in the nicest way possible, leaving fur babies to be fur babies and experimenting on people instead (the people at ColourPop HQ to be exact!). We like long walks on the beach, sipping margaritas, swatching Lippies in the moonlight, and… oops, got a little sidetracked! Back to business. Trends come and go, so it’s super important to us that you can keep up with this ever-changing industry without breaking the bank. You can try out the latest trends without serious commitment because our luxury formulas are priced for experimentation. They’re also, like, really pretty. We’re dedicated to creating the best possible products in every shade imaginable for our loyal ColourPoppers & ColourPopettes.

The highlighters are a sort of creme and powder hybrid with a very creamy formula.  They have an almost cushioned, springy feel to them which I found a bit strange at first, but not in a bad way.  I have been told that they can dry out so I’ve been making sure the lids are all screwed on tightly – very very tightly as I don’t want them to spoil.  I’ve found that applying them with my fingers has been giving me the best results, but a fan brush can also work too.  They can also work nicely as eyeshadows or eyeshadow toppers too.

We took our famous Super Shock formula and added luminous pearls and glimmer to create the perfect creme powder highlighter.

Each highlighter costs $8.00 although some were limited edition and I’m not sure if they’re still available.

GLAZED is a soft ivory gold that is very very pretty.  It has a sort of marbled, tie-dye effect that enables you to either use the two shades individually or mixed together to create a very pretty shade.

ICED is described as being a rosy gold, but I’d say it’s a bit more on the bronzed side, although there are some pretty pink hints.  It’s nice and warm and works really well on my skin tone.

FROSTED is a soft true gold that is so beautifully warm toned.  It has a very buttery texture that applies perfectly and looks so nice on.  I love this one.

SCRUMPTIOUS is a silvery baby pink that looks quite delicate in the pan but is surprisingly reflective.  Personally I love it, but I do have to be quite gently with it.

WHIPPED is a warm silvery taupe that has the most gorgeous metallic finish.  It’s quite a multi-dimensional shade that is so beautiful.  I find myself preferring to use this as an eyeshadow, but it does work well on the cheeks too.

WISP is a golden champagne with gold pearls and it is one of my favourites.  I love gold toned highlighters and this is a very flattering shade.  It does have a nice shimmer to it, but it’s not too shimmery – it is stunning!

So my first proper experience of ColourPop has been a very positive one.  I’m determined to get some more products as soon as I’m not quite so poor as they are just so beautiful.  Sometimes when a product is super affordable I worry about what the quality will be like.  I can safely say that the quality of these products warrants a much higher price tag.
