Charlotte Tilbury Instant Eye Palette – be still my beating heart! I am trying very hard to resist new launches, but when there was a pre-sale for the palette, all of my willpower disappeared. I’d seen pictures of this for a while and knew that I was going to have to have it. I already own all of her Luxury Eye palettes, and her Instant Look palettes, so there was no point even pretending I wasn’t going to need this.
For me, Charlotte’s eyeshadows are some of the nicest I have tried and I’ve wanted her to do a larger palette for a while. Charlotte describes this palette as a complete eye makeup wardrobe and I can see why. The palette is broken down into 4 colour coded shade trios – each with their own look. Each look offers something different or you could let loose and use the palette as a whole.
Now at first glance, it does look similar to Urban Decay’s Naked, but after playing around with it they are 2 very different palettes. Yes some of the shades are similar, but I feel it’s different enough to warrant owning both.
PACKAGING TO DIE FOR!!
Charlotte Tilbury’s products are always beautifully packaged and this is no exception. It is stunning … seriously stunning. The palette is housed in a beautiful gold Art Deco style case with a sunburst design. I love the detail Charlotte puts into her products and this is a work of art. I never thought I was a fan of Art Deco designs but ever since I’ve fallen in love with Charlotte Tilbury, I’ve been won over.
So there are 4 different looks in the palette that will take you from Desk to Disco. There is a look for every part of your day meaning that you could get away with having just this palette if you’re a fan of neutrals. This isn’t a bold or bright palette – it is neutral with a good mix of mattes and shimmers, as well as warm and cooler shades. Each trio has a shade to Prime, Enhance and Smoke.
The 4 looks are:
DAY – fresh and natural
DESK – perfect for work
DATE – soft and dreamy
DISCO – dramatic rock chick look
PRIME – delicate cream matte
ENHANCE – neutral brown shimmer
SMOKE – taupe matte
PRIME – pink champagne shimmer
ENHANCE – terracotta matte
SMOKE – caramel matte
PRIME – mauve cocoa shimmer
ENCHANCE – bronzed chocolate shimmer
SMOKE – dark chocolate matte
PRIME – gold shimmer
ENHANCE – olive gold shimmer
SMOKE – midnight black matte
The Charlotte Tilbury Instant Eye Palette is beautiful to use. The matte shades are nice and soft and give you an almost soft-focus effect. With the shimmer shades, you get a gorgeous glowing, almost dewy effect and they are gorgeous.
At first I didn’t think the shadows were that pigmented, but you can build them up nicely. The pans appear to have been pressed quite firmly, so there’s not a lot of fallout (hardly any), but it does mean you have to build up the coverage. I love how soft these shadows are and the blending is incredible. They blend perfectly and so easily – it’s like it does the work for you. You don’t need to be the best at applying eyeshadow to get stunning looks from this palette – by keeping it to trios of shades, and the high quality of the shadows, it’s practically foolproof.
GET THE LOOK
The look that I was most drawn to was the Date Eye, so I got stuck straight in every though it’s a Friday and I’m not going anywhere! I’m a big fan of shimmer shades so this one just spoke to me and the shades are beautiful.
First of all I prepped my skin with Magic Cream as I find this gives me a gorgeous base to work with. I then took the palette and used the Prime shade over the majority of my eye. This was followed by the Enhance shade which I used across the lid and slightly into the crease. I then took the Smoke shade and worked it into the crease before blending it all. I wanted quite a heavy look so I did pack the shadows on, but you can soften it out easily. Then I look the Enhance and Smoke shades and ran them along the lower lash line before using The Classic Eyeliner along my lower waterline.
I then used Filmstar Bronze & Glow to slightly add depth to my cheeks, before using the Full Fat Lashes mascara. Whenever I do my eyes, I like to add highlight in the inner corner and along the brow bone, so I used the Bar of Gold.
With the eyes finished, I used Wonder Glow and Light Wonder as my base. I set this with the Airbrush Flawless Finish powder (it’s the best), and added some blush with the Cheek to Chic in Sex On Fire. I used the highlight shade from Filmstar as I only wanted a subtle glow to my cheeks. To finish, I used Pillow Talk Lip Cheat and Lipstick as I wanted the eyes to be the focus of the look.
As stunning as the palette is, there is a slight negative … the price. The Charlotte Tilbury Instant Eye Palette costs £60.00 … yep, my heart sank when I saw the price too. However, we all know Charlotte’s eyeshadows aren’t cheap. The Luxury Eye Palettes cost £39.00 and that’s just for 4 shadows, so this one is better value for money. If you’re a Charlotte Tilbury fan, then you’ll definitely want this palette … see it as a very lovely treat to yourself.
Charlotte Tilbury Instant Eye Palette will be back in stock on October 5th, so don’t forget to check it out.
