I have a slight makeup brush obsession (there’s about 200 brushes in my collection and it keeps growing), and I love adding new brands to my stash. I have seen Spectrum brushes around for quite a while – they seem to be the latest Instagram must-have – but some of the brighter colours just didn’t appeal to me. However, when I saw this little contour set on the Birchbox Shop, I decided to buy it and give them a try.
The set contains four of Spectrum’s best-selling face brushes and cost £34.99 – although for £5.00 more, you can now buy a 5 piece Sculpting Set, so I’m a little bit annoyed. Spectrum’s brushes are all made from high quality synthetic hair as they’re a PETA registered and Vegan trademarked cruelty free brand.
I was drawn to this set above some of the more garish and child-like looking sets as they look simple yet stylish. They’re finished in grey and white with gorgeous rose gold detailing and really appeal to my inner minimalist.
B01 FLAT TOP BUFFER
This brush, as with the others in the set, has super-soft bristles. These bristles enable you to lightly buff your foundation into your skin for a nice even finish, as well as enabling you to build up the level of coverage if you wish. It can also be used for stippling, or to blend cream products into the skin.
B02 DOMED BUFFER
The bristles on this brush are soft yet densely packed together, which makes it ideal for buffing cream products onto the skin. The rounded bristles fit perfectly in the face hollows making it a great brush for when you want a light contour. It is also great if you really want to achieve a denser blush or bronzed look, as it packs on powder products.
C03 TULIP POWDER
This is my favourite brush in the set. It is ideal for the precision application of powder or cream products. It has a tapered tip so it is great for contouring along the hairline, or highlighting the brow bone, cheekbones, and the bridge of the nose.
C04 ANGLED POWDER
This brush is designed to apply product where it’s needed to give definition to the bone structure. It’s great for adding definition under the jawline, as well as sweeping across the cheekbones to add more depth.
Overall, I am impressed with the quality of these brushes. The Spectrum Marbelous Collection is a really lovely set, and I would now consider trying the others from this range.
