I am a huge fan of Jo Malone and my Jo Malone London collection seems to grow bigger each month, so I was a little bit mad at myself that I still hadn’t tried anything from Jo’s newest venture Jo Loves. When Jo left her original company, she was locked out of the industry for 5 years, but she came back with a bang and Jo Loves is her new baby (well not that new as it has been around for a few years now).
I have wanted to try something from there for ages, and thankfully the better half treated me to a few bits.
The packaging of Jo Loves is very different from Jo Malone London, but I love it – it’s fresh and modern and despite it’s simplicity, it still feels luxurious and makes an impact. I love the red dot (no product leaves Jo Loves without Jo’s red dot of approval), and the product arrived beautifully wrapped with a white card sleeve embossed with a Union Jack and adorned with a red bow and ribbon. I love little touches like this, it makes the whole experience that little bit more special.
I knew that I wanted to try a fragrance but as I live in the arse end of nowhere (or Blackburn to give it it’s proper name), there isn’t really any chance to smell any of the scents.
Luckily, Mick bought me Jo’s autobiography for my birthday and it contains a scented page in it and I loved the scent, so the decision was made that I wanted to try Pomelo. When Jo came back from her lockout, Pomelo was the scent she created and it is fast becoming a cult classic and it’s not hard to see why.
Inspired by memories of summer holidays; white sandy beaches, fresh linen sheets and sparkling iced water, I surround myself with Pomelo wherever I go. It’s the fragrance that causes people to stop me in the streets to ask what I’m wearing. Jo Malone
After months of wearing heavier Winter scents, I wanted something that was fresher and more suitable for the warmer months – wishful thinking that we might actually get a Summer this year – and Pomelo sounded ideal. Mick bought me the 100ml bottle which retails for £115.00 – expensive, but Jo creates such high quality fragrances that I feel they’re worth every penny.
Pomelo is described as being mouth-watering and is Jo’s signature scent. When you first spray it, you’re hit with a fresh, sharp citrus and this lasts throughout the whole development time of the fragrance and throughout the day. Then the most gorgeous earthiness comes through from the peppery tones of the Vetiver and the freshness settles down to a smooth, sensual scent that still has the freshness.
Pomelo is available to buy here.
I also really wanted to try a candle so I asked Mick if I could have the Frangipani candle, which is £55.00 for a 185g candle.
I love Jo Malone candles so I was looking forward to seeing what this would be like. One word – gorgeous! It can be a bit of a gamble choosing a scent that you have never smelt before, but luckily I love this.
Frangipani has such an exotic scent which reminds me of warm evenings on holidays where the night air is sweetly perfumed. I burn this candle at home to create a feeling of calm. Jo Malone
It was Jo’s description of this that really sold it to me. I love the scent of the night air when you’re on holiday, and the fact that she says it makes her feel calm really appealed to me as life has been more than a little bit stressful recently.
The Frangipani flowers have a beautifully sweet and creamy scent, and these mix with delicate hints of Orange Flower Oil and Jasmine. This candle is very sweet but not in a sickly way at all – the notes are perfectly balanced and it really does induce a feeling of calmness and tranquility.
You can buy the Frangipani candle here.
Finally, Mick surprised me and treated me to the Fragrance Discovery Gift Experience (50ml – £105.00).
You get 10 of the Jo Love fragrances in miniature shot samples and then when you have decided which one you like the most, you have a voucher code to redeem against a 50ml bottle (there is also a 100ml available for £150.00).
Choosing a new fragrance is such a personal moment and this gift collection has been created for you to take your time finding a favourite. Jo Malone
This is such a great idea, especially for those of us who don’t live in London and can’t get to the store to smell the perfumes. The only trouble is you will probably fall in love with most, if not all, of the scents and then struggle which one to choose.
The scents included in the Collection are, along with Pomelo:
MANDARINE – a beautiful blend of Bergamot Oil, Lemon Leaf and Petitgrain
SMOKED PLUM & LEATHER – a seductive combination of Sweet Plum Liqueur infused with Smoked Cedarwood and soft, warm Leather
RED TRUFFLE 21 – rich, warm scent of Truffle, Fig, Black Pepper and Pine Leaves
NO. 42 AT THE FLOWER SHOP – stunning bouquet of fresh, fragrant blooms and Crushed Green Leaves
GREEN ORANGE & CORIANDER – Bitter Green Citrus and culinary herbs blend together harmoniously
FRESH SWEET PEAS – quintessentially British, this pretty floral fragrance celebrates the scent of Summer
WHITE ROSE & LEMON LEAVES – fresh, clean and elegant, White Rose and Lemon Leaves literally blooms at it settles on the skin
SHARDS OF CEDAR & THYME – a sophisticated blend of Bergamot, Crushed Herbs, Aromatic Spices and Smooth Woods
PINK VETIVER – a sweet, sharp and contemporary spice combining Crushed Pink Peppercorns, Cardamom and Cumin
They all smell so lovely, but I have settled on No. 42 At The Flower Shop and I can’t wait for it to arrive.
You can buy the Fragrance Discovery here.
I am so pleased to see that Jo Loves is every bit as gorgeous as I had hoped it would be and that Ms Malone has lost none of her magic. The scents are undeniably Jo Malone scents with a new freshness and energy that breathes new life into the industry.
