I am a big fan of MAC makeup and I am slowly developing a nice collection, so when I saw that they had released their Look In A Box range, I knew I needed to get one. I did try hard to resist, but in the end, I caved … as usual. I went for the Be Sweet & Dreamy Look In A Box (£49.00) as the neutral tones are what I like. You get 6 full-size products, which I think is really good for the price.
I have filmed a YouTube video trying this set out, which I will link at the bottom of this post if you want to watch it (and subscribe – you know you want to).
First up in the Look In A Box, you get an Eyeshadow x 2 in Sweetums Peachy and Head Over Heels. I have quite a lot of MAC eyeshadows and I don’t love them – I want to, but sometimes they can be a bit hard to work with and don’t match up to other palettes that I have.
I do like the shades – Sweetums Peachy is a gold shimmer in a deluxe pearl fusion finish, and Head Over Heels is a mid tone warm brown matte. I found the darker shade very hard to work with and it felt like I was having to apply a lot, and it lacked blendability for me, but the lighter shade is beautiful and has a much nicer texture. The only downside is that the second the light shade gets anywhere near the brown, it does tend to go a bit muddy, which was disappointing.
I hadn’t used a MAC Kohl liner before and this probably wasn’t the best one to start with. I liked the texture and how well it applied but the shade, Costa Riche, wasn’t for me.
It’s described as a rich coffee bean brown, but I found it to be quite orange-toned and, to be honest, it just left me looking like I had an eye infection. However, it hasn’t put me off trying other shades as it did apply really nicely without any pulling and it stayed on for hours, even on my waterline.
The In Extreme Dimension Lash mascara left me torn. I loved how it lengthened my stumpy little lashes, but it was quite clumpy.
I will definitely continue to use this as it really did add length and open up my eyes, but be prepared for some clumps. I don’t think it would work too well if you wanted to apply a few layers of this due to the clumping, but I am going to take my time with it when applying as I really do like how it makes the lashes look.
Oh I do love me a good MAC Powder Blush and Prism is no exception. It’s a beautiful muted pink/brown matte that adds a lovely warmth to the face.
There was a lot of fallout when I swirled my brush in it but I can forgive it for that as it really does look nice. You can build it up and it also blends out nicely too. A really lovely blush that I am now very happy to have in my collection.
I was a bit unsure of the Cream Colour Base in Treat Me Sweet at first as me and cream products aren’t always friends.
I love the golden shimmer of this but I was a little wary of how to use it – I used my fingers and ran it along my cheekbones – it’s quite subtle, but you can build it up – and then I ran some under my brow bone and in the inner corner of my eyes. Then I fell in love. I’d been a little bit underwhelmed with the eye look I had created, but this added a much needed pop of light and changed how I felt about the whole look. I’m now not as scared of cream based products and this will be getting a lot of use.
Aaaaah the joy that is a fresh new MAC lipstick and that gorgeous vanilla scent – I love it. It was the lipstick that sold this set to me.
Kinda Sexy is a neutral pink/rose matte and it is perfect for Spring and Summer. I’m not sure how well it actually suits me but I don’t even care as it is such a gorgeous shade. It stayed on for a few hours and isn’t at all drying on the lips.
Be Sweet & Dreamy Look In A Box is still in stock at Debenhams.
